Jules de Balincourt

Boxing Your Subconscious, 2005, oil and enamel on panel, 61 x 122cm
Jules de Balincourt’s Boxing Your Subconscious explodes with painterly humour. His messy artistic expression descends into cartoon violence: the psychological contemplation of abstract painting turned into view paying blood sport. The hurried brown and grey background provides a dark-recess setting for blasts of coloured enamel; their splatters and smears creating a Rorschach test scrap heap. Delicately drawn boxing ring ropes keep the painterly frenzy barely under control, framing de Balincourt’s inner turmoil for cheering viewer entertainment.
